In the midst of all the DwightMare Drama that filled the day all over the internet and shook Twitter the Nets had a game tonight at home against the Toronto Raptors. The game seemed to take a back seat to the Trade Deadline but the healthy members of the Nets didn’t care and put together a great second half and beat the Raptors behind another huge game from Kris Humphries and “G5” Gerald Green. Deron Williams sat this one out for the third straight game trying to rest his sore calf.
The game was back and forth in the first half as Hump came out of the blocks still on fire from his last game and pulled almost had a double double in the first quarter and brought significant intensity to an otherwise meaningless game. The Nets did their best in the first half to give the game away as usual with eleven turnovers that lead to twenty Raptors points and somehow stayed close to only be behind 46-41.
The second half was a complete opposite for the Nets as they only turned it over three times and played much more unselfishly and the ball moved briskly and the shots fell. The leader of the surge was the “Instant Highlight” himself Gerald Green as he used his quickness and amazing jumping ability to spark several runs and get the sparse crowd involved. Green had another outstanding game and finished with 26 points on 9/13 shooting and three steals as well as numerous attempts to throw one down but Toronto fouled him each time to stop the highlight. Humphries dominated the backboard again with a career high 21 rebounds to go with 16 points/3 blocks and 3 steals. The rest of the Nets chipped in nicely to hold off the Raptors as the Nets held down Bargnani and DeRozan to quiet games as they held Toronto to 38% shooting while shooting a staggering 48% themselves. The rebounding edge was the difference in the game as the Nets out rebounded the Raptors 48-37.
Tomorrow at 3pm is the Trade Deadline and all eyes will be on Dwight Howard and if he ends up on the Nets. Stay tuned. FINGERS CROSSED
